Fishing Report

Thursday, March 11, 2010.  At least the temps have gone up some.  The last few days have started to feel like fishing weather; however, rain is forecast for the rest of the week.  Still no reports from the Salvo, Waves, Rodanthe area.  Further south a few dogfish and/or skate have been caught.  Offshore boaters are still having great catches of bluefin tuna, a good number of yellowfin tuna, and some tile fish.

Thursday, March 4, 2010.  Nothing has changed as far as surf fishing goes.  There was a rumor that a puppy drum was pulled from the surf, but it's been impossible to confirm.  If you have a boat that you can go out of Oregon Inlet you should be able to catch some stripers.  Off shore boats from both Oregon Inlet and Hatteras Inlet have been doing good on bluefin tuna.  There have also been some good catches of yellowfin tuna.  Here in the Salvo/Waves/Rodanthe area, we are waiting for spring.  Not just the calandar date but warming water, air, and migrating fish.  We thought February would never end.

Thursday, February 25, 2010.  We have all heard "You should have been here yesterday."  Well, you should have been here 2 weeks ago.  Puppy drum were all around.  Everyone fishing was catching.  However, they have scattered.  Another nasty weather front is headed this way so maybe after it's over the drum will return.  For those who want to go offshore a good number of bluefin and yellowfin tuna are being caught,  Boaters out of oregon Inlet are catching some nice stripers north of the inlet.  They seem to be working just a little closer.  I'm sure if one were fishing in the Salvo, Waves, Rodanthe area a skate and/or shark could be pulled in once in a while.

Thursday, February 11, 2010.  Another week, same old story.  Cold air and high winds keep anglers off the beach.  The forecast for this weekend is much the same.  The good news is spring is on the way.  Just don't hold your breath.  Off shore fishing has been pretty good when the boats are able to make it out.  There are reports of yellow, black, and bluefin tuna being caught.  The boats have been able to get out a couple of days each week.  There have been no reports  from the Salvo, Waves, Rodanthe area.  Mullet Man is going on a cruise to a warmer area and will not issue another report until around the end of February.

Thursday, February 4, 2010.  Fishing has not improved.  Rough seas, high winds, and cold temps are keeping fishermen away and when they do show, only a few dogfish are being landed.  Tuna are being caught when the boats are able to leave dock.  Some stripers are being caught north of Oregon Inlet.  This weekend is promising to be a repeat of last weekend.  Nothing is being reported from the Salvo, Waves, Rodanthe area and all the way down to Cape Point and around to Hatteras Inlet.

Thursday, January 28, 2010.  There are still a few puppy drum along the Salvo to Hattaras Inlet beaches; however, there are few fishermen willing to battle the cold winds.  The weather is supposed to get worse over the weekend so there will probably not be much angling going on until next week.  Hopefully there will be a better report.

Friday, January 22, 2010.  The story is the same one.  Puppy drrum are being reeled in from Salvo to Hatteras Inlet.  A few speckled trout are being caught between Cape Point and Hatteras Inlet.  Some big stripers have been landed by boaters out of Oregon Inlet.  The first blue marlin of the year has been caught.  The Mullet Man is concerned about the snagging of puppy drum.  The concern is how many survive being snagged then returned to the ocean.  We can only hope that they all survive.
