Friday, July 30, 2010. The wind finally laid this week and the fishing began to improve. In the Salvo, Waves, Rodanthe area anglers were catching Spot, flounder, sea mullet, and blues. The catch was pretty much the same from Salvo to Avon and on the Rodanthe and Avon Piers. Some croaker, of course, was in the mix. Now that the Point is open fishermen can get there to fish and they did. There were a good number of blues and spanish caught. Sea mullet and croaker were caught when fishing on the bottom. A good number of pompano were caught along Frisco beach. They should move back to the Salvo area now that the water is warming back up. Offshore anglers are catching limits of Dolphin along with some yellowfin tuna and wahoo. A 248 pound bigeye tuna was weighed in at the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center.
Tuesday, July 20, 2010. The Mullet Man has just returned from a trip to marry off his Grandson so maybe now we can keep the fishing report up to date. A blow came in this weekend and slowed the fishing in most places. However, if you tried to fish, preferrably at night, along the soundside between Salvo and Avon you had a good chance of catching a drum, a blue, or a trout. The wind was keeping the water close to shore. There were a few sea mullet and croakers caught from the beach in the Salvo, Waves, Rodanthe area. A pedestrain path to Cape Point has opened but we did not get a report from fishermen who may have made the walk. A few spot and small sea mullet were caught in the Frisco area. spanish mackerel and blues were caught from Hatteras Inlet.
Wednesday, July 6, 2010. At least one puppy drum was landed in the Salvo, Waves, Rodanthe area. Some nice sea mullet and small blues were caught from Pea Island down through Avon. Some spanish mackerel, flounder, and pompano were caught in the Buxton area. Some spanish and blues were landed on Avon Pier and in the Ramp 55 area.Inshore boaters in the Hatteras Inlet area boated a good number of cobia and some puppy drum. Sailfish, white marlin and dolphin are being caught offshore.
Friday, June 18, 2010. The catch of the day in the Salvo, Waves, Rodanthe area seems to be small blues and sea mullet, each day. Sometimes there is a croaker or pompano mixed in. Anglers on Rodanthe Pier are making the same catches with a trout showing up every now and then and some good catches of spanish mackerel. Blues and sea mullet are also being caught along Avon beach and from Avon Pier. Pompano up to 2 lb are being caught in the Frisco area. Cobia are still being caught by boaters fishing the Hatteras Inlet area. Dolphin and tuna are being caught offshore.
Monday, June 14, 2010. Fishing was pretty good during the end of the week and the weekend. Sea mullet, blues, croaker, a few flounder, and several trout were caught in the Salvo, Waves, Rodanthe area. The catch was much the same from Rodanthe Pier. Blues and sea mullet were caught from the Avon beaches. Blues, spanish mackerel, croaker, sea mullet, and trout were landed on the Avon Pier. A sheepshead weighing nearly 10 lbs was caught near ramp 43, along with some pompono in the 2 lb range, and some sea mullet.
Tuesday, June 8, 2010. A few sea mullet, croaker, blues, and several pompano showed up in the surf in the Salvo, Waves, Rodanthe area over the weekend. The strong southwest winds kept inshore boating catches to a minimum although some blues and spanish were boated. Sheepshead in the 2 to 5 lb range are being caught near the pilings of the Oregon Inlet Bridge (Herbert Bonner Bridge). Offshore anglers have been catching limits of dolphin and some billfish.
Sunday, May 30, 2010. The Salvo, Waves, Rodanthe area produced some nice sea mullet, bluefish, and a few flounder Saturday. The weather is great and the water seems to be cooperating so anglers should have good luck today also. Rodanthe Pier reported tailor blues and sea mullet. Bluefish and some spanish mackerel were caught in the Oregon Inlet area. Cobia fishing continues to be good in the Hatteras Inlet area. Dolphin, bluefin tuna, blue marlin, white marlin, and sailfish are being caught offshore.
Saturday, May 29, 2010. Anglers in the Salvo, Waves, Rodanthe area have to walk to the beach to fish. No driving in the area. The ones that do walk over have been rewarded with catches of croaker, sea mullet, a few spot, and several puppy drum along with the shark and rays. Some spanish mackerel and sheepshead were caught from the Hatteras Island Pier in Rodanthe. Some cobia are still being caught in Hatteras Inlet. Dolphin and blue marlin are being caught offshore.
