Just spoke with a very nice lady, "Laurie," at the Blue Whale who assured me she would have a Washington Post for our almost 80 year old father to read every day! Thank you Laurie and we look forward to meeting you in July!

Is the beach in Salvo conducive for body surfing? Is it a safe, family beach with no rapid drop-offs near the water line or frequent rips?

Thank you

Barbara:

The beach in Salvo is usually great for body surfing. Some days there are rips and/or drop offs and some days there are none. Generally, it is safe swimming for the entire family. Enjoy your vacation.

We just got back from our first trip to the Outer Banks. We stayed in Salvo. What a nice little town! Everything you need is there. The beach is wonderful. And it's not far to drive to the "major" tourist spots (Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, Hattaras, Okracoke). And when you return to "home base" you're in the middle of nowhere. The stars are amazing! I'd stay in Salvo again.

Thanks Salvo, NC...

we will be having a small family reunion in Salvo this summer and were wondering if there is a public sound access close by. Are there places to rent kayaks for the week? Do people swim in the sound? What about mosquitoes at the beginning of August?
You have a very nice website and we are looking forward to coming down.

The Salvo Day Use Area is located just South of Salvo on the sound side. It is a very nice place for small children and has a toilet and shower. You can rent kayaks in the area. If the weather has been dry for several weeks prior to your arrival there will be very few mosquitoes; however if we are having a rainy spell, there will be plenty for everyone. Enjoy your visit.

For Sonny Duke. Is a good dose of snake-bite medicine still the remedy of choice when the fish are not biting, or even if they are biting? I'm still recovering from an overdose back in the late 70's :)

Snake-bite medicine is still the remedy of choice.
