Hatteras Island runs North to South along Hwy 12, and is accessible by crossing over the Oregon Inlet Bridge, or by taking a short ferry trip from Ocracoke, North to Cape Hatteras. Consisting of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras, this island is surrounded by water with the Pamlico Sound on the West and the Atlantic Ocean on the East.
